IWCA Welcomes Kenyan Chapter

The International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) is pleased to announce Kenya as the newest chapter to join their international network. The road to establishing the chapter began in February 2020 during the IWCA Breakfast at the African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA) conference. Ten women came together as the founding members and resolved to form a new chapter that addresses the needs of all women in the value chain. The chapter currently represents 40 members and has identified the following strategic objectives to guide their efforts: 

• Market access and logistics

• Facilitating industry connections and knowledge sharing

• Access to financing

“Kenya is a coffee producing country well known for her high-quality coffee. We hope to share our great coffees with the world through the IWCA global network. We also hope to create synergies at the global platform to help us achieve our key strategic objectives;” said IWCA Kenya President, Josphine Ndikwe. The chapter is driven by a commitment to ensure strategic and meaningful connections between their members and stakeholders in the Kenyan coffee supply chain and beyond.    

Dr. Sarada Krishnan, IWCA Executive Director, is excited about the continued expansion of the global chapter network and the impact the chapter will have on women in Kenya .“The leadership of the Kenya chapter, led by Josephine Ndikwe has completed all the rigorous protocols necessary to become an IWCA chapter,“ Krishnan said. “Kenya is a large coffee producing country with many women producers, as well as women engaged in all aspects of coffee value chain. I am thrilled to welcome Kenya into the IWCA chapter network and look forward to working together to advance the causes of Kenyan women in coffee.”
