Empowering Change: IWCA's New Vital Impact Fund Targets Key Needs in Coffee Communities

Marking the Launch of a Global Initiative with a Birthday Fundraiser

The International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) proudly announces the introduction of the Vital Impact Fund, a new endeavor specifically designed to channel resources precisely where they are most urgently required within the global coffee community. Overseen by Executive Director Blanca Castro, the fund will enhance IWCA's mission to connect women in the coffee value chain with critical resources, including education, financial literacy, and leadership development.

This pivotal initiative is set in motion by a generous gesture from one of IWCA’s own founders, Melissa Pugash. Celebrating her birthday, Melissa invites friends, family, and the broader coffee community to join her in supporting this cause that's close to her heart. This global fundraising appeal aims to amplify the reach and depth of IWCA’s empowerment programs, directly impacting women, their families, and their communities across the coffee industry.

Beth Spong, an IWCA Board member and the Development Committee Chair, shares her enthusiasm: “Melissa’s initiative to tie her birthday celebration to the Vital Impact Fund is a testament to her commitment and passion for our mission. Her efforts shine a light on the transformative work IWCA does around the world.”

Since its establishment in 2003, IWCA has been pivotal in addressing significant challenges facing the coffee industry, such as climate change, market instability, and gender inequities, which disproportionately impact women. The Vital Impact Fund will provide targeted support to alleviate these challenges, enhancing the quality of life and work for women at the heart of coffee production.

The women who benefit from IWCA's programs often see transformative changes. By gaining access to education and financial resources, they can make informed decisions that benefit their businesses and families. Leadership training empowers them to take active roles in their local coffee communities, fostering growth and sustainability.

As we launch the Vital Impact Fund, we invite the global community to contribute, supporting not just a fund, but a movement. Each donation reinforces our commitment to empowering women in the coffee industry, creating ripple effects that extend to their families and communities.

Join us in this celebration of empowerment and collective effort. Your support helps us continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals within the coffee value chain.
