Italy Becomes The 30th Chapter To Join IWCA

The International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) is pleased to announce the addition of Italy as the 30th chapter to their global chapter network. As the sixth consuming country, and second European chapter to join the IWCA network the Italian membership will provide valuable insights and expand the opportunities for chapter collaborations.

“As a coffee-consuming country, Italy is in a favorable position to influence the demand for good coffee, “ said Talia Miceli, President of IWCA Italy. “In terms of quality, sustainability, and above all working conditions for producers, I believe IWCA Italy can do great things to empower women working in the coffee sector by creating a stronger network between coffee producers and consumers.”

IWCA chapters operate as independent organizations guided by the unique needs of their communities and are globally united by the shared mission to empower women working in the coffee industry to achieve sustainable livelihoods. IWCA Italy has identified the following strategic objectives to guide their chapter efforts:

  • Host an annual networking event to highlight coffees from IWCA producing chapters and increase awareness of women’s roles in the coffee supply chain.

  • Engage in partnerships and projects that will directly empower women and women and other under-sourced groups in Italian communities and beyond.

  • Educate Italian coffee consumers on critical issues in the supply chain like labor conditions, environmental sustainability, and coffee quality so they can make informed choices when purchasing coffee.

Dr. Sarada Krishnan, IWCA Executive Director, is excited about the continued growth of the global chapter network, saying “I am thrilled to welcome Italy as the 30th chapter to the IWCA network. The chapter leadership is deeply committed to the development and advancement of its members and we look forward to facilitating direct connections between our producing and consuming chapters.”
