The International Women's Coffee Alliance is very active in the specialty coffee community. In addition to our own events, board and staff members represent the IWCA by hosting events and presenting speeches at trade conferences and other events in the global coffee community.
Upcoming events
IWCA to Participate in World Coffee Conference
The IWCA will be participating in the upcoming World Coffee Conference, February 26-28, 2010 in
Guatemala City. The event will welcome 77 ICO Member Governments, the private sector and other organizations to help further the International Coffee Agreement 2007 initiatives to strengthen the global coffee sector and promote its sustainable expansion in a market-based environment for the betterment of all participants in the sector.
With a focus on Coffee for the Future: Towards a Sustainable Coffee Sector, the Conference will welcome delegates of the ICO to cover a range of topics focusing on Economic Sustainability: the economics of production; Economic Sustainability: the economics of demand; Environmental Sustainability and Social Sustainability.
The IWCA will participate in the Social Sustainability segment, with a focus on maintaining substantial rural employment and stable coffee-growing communities. The Sustainability session will discuss social aspects of sustainability and coffee, including the ICO’s Millennium Development Goals, gender issues and youth.
The results of the Conference will be discussed during the 104th Session of the International Coffee Council, which will meet in
Guatemala City following the Conference from March 1-4, 2010.
The Conference will be organized by the Asociacion Nacional del Café de
Guatemala (ANACAFE) in cooperation with Nestor Osorio, Executive Director of the International Coffee Association. For more information about the event, visit www.ico.org.

The NCA is a great partner who allows the IWCA to host a fundraising luncheon at their Spring Conference every year. Please support the IWCA and NCA by attending this luncheon.. Our guest speaker this year will be Michael Gaviña of Gaviña Gourmet Coffee. He will speak about Gaviña’s environmental goals, accomplishments and best management practices including social and employee programs, product life cycle analysis, and waste reduction.
